The whiskra’s eyes narrowed into slits as they studied him for a long moment. Finally, they sat down and extended a paw. “I like you, kid. What’s your name. I’m Felix, pronouns they/them, since you humans always seem to mess that up.”
Before Javi could shake their paw, Felix retracted it and went inside. Shrugging, Javi followed them.
While most of the animals were still nestled in their beds, a few pica children were playfully hopping around in the hallway. A lupicano sat in a rocking chair near the information desk, engrossed in reading the newspaper on a notewatt.
Halting in front of the information desk, Felix turned to Javi, their whiskers twitching. “I have the perfect job for you.” A sly grin spread across their face. “The toilets are in desperate need of cleaning.”
Javi crinkled his nose but refused to let Felix deter him. He’d said he would help, so help he would.
